Manilva sits at the western end of the Costa del Sol, between Estepona and Sotogrande, and it’s the least developed stretch of this coastline. That’s the whole argument for it.
The hills behind the town are vineyards, which is unusual on this coast. Manilva has grown Moscatel grapes since Roman times and still produces wine commercially, so the countryside behind the beaches looks nothing like the golf estates further east. Between the vines sit old cortijos and farmhouses, several of which now host weddings.
El Molino del Duque is the one we work with: an 18th-century flour mill in a quiet valley, with three hectares of gardens, courtyards and a pool, taken on exclusive use.
What Manilva gives you is quiet and value. It’s twenty minutes from Estepona, forty from Marbella, and twenty-five from Sotogrande, so your guests have the whole coast within reach, but the town itself hasn’t been built up the way its neighbours have. Prices reflect that: expect meaningfully less than Marbella for comparable quality.
What it doesn’t give you is choice. There are far fewer venues here than in Marbella or Estepona, so if you have a very specific vision you may find the options narrower than you’d like. And there’s less for guests to do in the town itself, so most people base themselves in Estepona or Sotogrande and come over for the day.

Why get married in Manilva?
It’s quiet. That’s the main thing, and on this coast it’s harder to find than you’d think. Manilva hasn’t been built up the way Estepona and Marbella have, so the beaches are emptier, the roads are clearer and your wedding isn’t competing with anything going on around it.
It’s cheaper. Venues, accommodation and suppliers all sit below Marbella for comparable quality, and noticeably so. The saving is largest inland among the vineyards.
And the setting is genuinely different. Vineyards running down towards the sea, old cortijos among them, and the whitewashed village up the hill. It looks like inland Andalucía rather than the Costa del Sol, while still being ten minutes from the beach.
On ceremonies, one correction worth making. A legal civil ceremony isn’t realistically available to non-residents anywhere in Spain, Manilva included, since the registry requires one of you on the local padrón. What almost every couple does is marry legally at home or in Gibraltar, which is forty minutes away, then hold a symbolic ceremony here with a celebrant. That can happen anywhere: a terrace, a courtyard, a vineyard, at whatever hour suits the light.
How can our guests get to Manilva?
Two airports, and Manilva sits roughly between them, which is unusual on this coast.
Málaga is about 1 hour 15 by car along the AP-7. It’s the practical choice for most guest lists, with direct flights from nearly every UK and Irish city and across Europe, plus far more car hire and better options if someone needs to rebook.
Gibraltar is about 35 minutes, which is considerably closer than from anywhere east of here. Direct flights from London, Manchester and Bristol, and if a good part of your guest list is British it’s worth checking the fares. The catch is that routes are limited and flights occasionally divert to Málaga in poor visibility.
Where guests stay. Manilva itself has limited accommodation, so most people base themselves in Estepona (20 minutes) or Sotogrande (25 minutes), both of which have far more choice and more to do in the evenings. Duquesa marina, five minutes away, has a handful of options too.
Arrange coaches for the wedding day. With guests spread across two or three towns and the venues inland among the vineyards, this isn’t optional. Taxis are scarce out here after midnight and the roads up to the fincas are unlit.
One useful thing about the location. Being close to Gibraltar makes Manilva one of the easier places on this coast to handle the legal side: marry at the Gibraltar registry on the Friday, celebrate here on the Saturday, and the drive is 35 minutes rather than two hours.

Timing. May, June and September. April and October evenings drop to 12 to 15°C, so plan for heaters outside. Winter is mild by day but dark by six.
Suppliers. Manilva’s pool is small, so most of what you need travels in from Estepona, Marbella or Sotogrande. That means travel time and sometimes an overnight, which we price in from the start.
The legal side. Decide before you book a date. A Spanish civil wedding needs one of you on the local padrón, which non-residents can’t easily satisfy. Most couples marry at home or in Gibraltar, 35 minutes away.

Can we legally get married in Manilva?
Not realistically as non-residents. A Spanish civil wedding goes through the Registro Civil, which expects at least one of you registered on the local padrón.
The useful thing about Manilva is that Gibraltar is 35 minutes away, closer than from anywhere further east on this coast. No residency requirement, English as the official language, UK documents accepted as they are. A good number of couples marry legally there on the Friday and hold the celebration here on the Saturday.
The alternative is to marry at home before travelling, a ten-minute registry appointment with two witnesses. Either way, the ceremony here is symbolic and led by a celebrant, which means you can hold it anywhere, at any hour, in any language.
A Catholic ceremony is the exception, legally recognised without the residency problem, though it needs baptism and confirmation certificates and a pre-nuptial file from your home parish. Allow a year.
What types of venue are there?
Three, broadly.
Country estates and cortijos among the vineyards inland. Old farmhouses with courtyards and gardens, taken on exclusive use, with relaxed curfews because there are no neighbours. This is what most Manilva weddings are.
Beach clubs and coastal venues along the seafront and around Duquesa marina. Relaxed and easy for guests, though the curfew is tighter since these sit near housing.
Private villas in the hills, with sea views and rooms for your closest family. Mostly dry hire, which means total freedom and considerably more to organise.
What Manilva doesn’t have is large hotels or golf resorts. For those, Sotogrande is 25 minutes west.
How much does a wedding in Manilva cost?
For 100 guests, expect €20,000 to €32,000 all in, covering venue, catering, drinks, flowers, music, photography and staffing. That’s meaningfully below Marbella for comparable quality, and the saving is largest inland.
Venue hire alone runs from around €3,000 for a rural cortijo to €8,000 for something coastal on a peak Saturday. Always ask whether IVA at 21% is included.
When should we marry?
May, June and September, with early October close behind. Warm and dry, comfortable into the evening, without July and August’s heat.
April and October give you lovely days and cold nights, dropping to 12 to 15°C, so budget for heaters if you’re eating outside. Winter is mild by day at 16 to 17°C but dark by six, which suits an afternoon ceremony with dinner indoors and it’s the best value of the year.
Inland runs a degree or two cooler than the coast, which is welcome in August and worth planning for in April.

Mostly in Estepona or Sotogrande, since Manilva itself has limited accommodation. Estepona is 20 minutes and has the widest range at every price point. Sotogrande is 25 minutes and more upmarket. Duquesa marina, five minutes away, has a handful of options.

What is there for our guests to do?
Manilva itself is quiet, which is the point of it, so most of what guests do happens nearby.
The Duquesa marina has restaurants and boat trips. Estepona is 20 minutes for the old town and the beaches. Gibraltar is 35 minutes for the Rock and the macaques. And Casares, ten minutes inland, is one of the finest white villages in Andalucía and almost entirely undiscovered.
For anyone staying longer, Ronda is about an hour and a half and worth the drive.
